Father’s Day This Sunday at SIF

Can you believe the year is almost half over? I am reminded of this as we turn to celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday, the third Sunday in June…

As we have been exploring “who God is, what God is,” “who we are, what we are,” the topic of God as Father is an interesting one! We have been learning that God — the name we use to label that which is beyond being created, the Source of everything — is not easily put into a box. God is not male or female, Christian, Jewish, or Buddhist, Democrat or Republican; God is beyond all labels.

Yet, we can learn something about the character of God or Spirit, and thereby ourselves (as God’s loving creations), by looking to the examples in our world of how love and peace are demonstrated, of gentle strength, of living a life of truth and ethics. We can explore the role of the loving father in this world as a means of revealing in ourselves those values and qualities we hold as ideals.

We honor fathers this Sunday, the fathers among us, those that have passed, the men in our lives that played that role as a family friend, and even the women that took on the role of both father and mother. And, we honor our highest Father, that which is the best and most true in us and among us.

It would be lovely to join with you!
