Sunday, December 11 — Kwanzaa: Celebrate the Light Within!

For the Fellowship’s light festival celebration during Advent this Sunday, we will honor the contemporary African-American Kwanzaa, which runs from December 26 to January 1.  “Kwanzaa” means “first fruits” in Swahili.  We will light a candle for each of the Nguzo Saba: Unity, self-determination, working together, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.

The last Sunday in Advent on December 18 will be a celebration of the Jewish light festival of Hanukkah.  This is the last Sunday to bring your contributions for the 2011 Holiday Joy Project.

Christmas Eve on Saturday, December 24th will be a chance to catch one’s breath and remember the true spirit of the season.  It’s a time to join with others in the quiet recollection of what is actually being celebrated.  The light has come!

The Fellowship’s Christmas Eve gathering at Sedona Creative Life Center is hosted by Reverend Susan Perry and Music Minister, Jon Michael. A tapestry of the birth narrative and inspiring readings, traditional and contemporary Christmas music, combined with a candlelighting ceremony, make the evening memorable.  Service at 6:30 p.m.in the Great Room at SCLC, with a social potluck following.  Bring a dish to share.
